The CIQS Prairies and NWT Chapter are pleased to invite all CIQS members, non-members and students to join this engaging webinar to be held on Thursday, November 26, 2020 from 11:00 AM - 12:30 PM (MST) / 1:00 PM - 2:30 PM (EST).

John Zhao, Principal Consultant at Riskcore Ltd. will lead this informative presentation guaranteed to help elevate your knowledge in project contingency. There will also be a Q&A session at the end of the webinar.

Seminar Objectives:

  • To share with project professionals the causes, factors and research findings why so many capital investment projects have failed to meet business or project objectives;
  • To help executives and decision-makers better understand the application, and authorized use of, project contingency at project sanction and during project execution;
  • To clarify the myth and confusion of contingency, what it is generally used for, and risks, items or events that should not be covered by contingency;
  • To demonstrate the importance of scientifically derive project contingency and establish confidence level of Cost / budget underrun for Project Management Team.

Meet the Speaker – John Zhao

John ZhaoWith more than 30 years’ experience in construction industry, John spent 8 years with international contractors (Far/Middle East), 7 years with EPC consulting firms (Canada) and past 12 years with major oil & gas companies (North America and Europe), his knowledge, skills and experiences always add values to project organizations in the specialty area of Project Management, Cost Controls and Risk Management.

Holding MSc. (Distinction) and BSc. (Honors) from England, John developed a proprietary RISCOR simulation model to evaluate the probability of major projects’ cost overruns at a given budget / AFE in consideration of potential delays and systemic risks. He has presented on the world stages in many occasions on the topic of risk management, contracting strategy and project contingency simulations. His presentation included talks at PMI Forum in Calgary 2019, Palisade Conference in Nashville 2018, Canadian Institute conferences in Calgary 2014 & 2013, SPE in Denver 2011, Palisade in London 2010 and in Miami in 2007, IQPC in Abu Dhabi 2008, and AACE in Las Vegas in 2005.
